"Charan's totally chilled out" Shazahn Padamsee

Bollywood belle Shazahn Padamsee on her new T-town flick, plan of action in B-town and the journey ahead
She has only recently made her Bollywood debut with Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. Shazahn Padamsee is the newest kid on the Bollywood block with one film to her credit, but that has not stopped her from being the latest B-Town babe making her debut down South. And why not? After all the film stars none other than Tollywood heartthrob Ram Charan Tej. Ask her why she chose her second film to be a Telugu flick and Shazahn is quick to reply, “It doesn’t matter to me if it’s regional cinema or Hindi cinema. I’m here for the experience of working with people down South. Everyone talks about them being very professional and now that I have already shot the first schedule, I have got a first-hand experience of the professionalism of the Telugu film industry,” she explains.
Elaborating on her role in the flick Shazahn says, “This is an untitled venture and I have a special role in it. The film stars Ram Charan and Genelia. Trust me so far the experience has been wonderful,” she chirps. And Shazahn has only words of praise for her co-stars. “Charan is really chilled out. Considering he is such a big superstar, there’s no trace of haughtiness in him. I had a ball shooting with him,” she confesses.
Though she is kicked about her Telugu venture, Shazahn is also pursuing her Bollywood dreams with utmost sincerity. Although Rocket Singh… did not perform as expect at the box office, the actor is only too happy to have made her debut with the Ranbir Kapoor starrer. “I think it’s every newcomer’s dream to try and do a Yash Chopra film. I managed to do that and I’m very happy with the response that I have got for the film,” says the newbie.
For someone who comes from a theatre background, was the silver screen always on her mind? “I knew I wanted to act in films. I have done plays in the past, but as a profession, it’s not something that you can continue with for a long time.”
With powerhouses of talent like Sharon Prabhakar and Alyque Padamsee as parents, was the journey to filmdom a smooth one? “Well, having parents like mine is an advantage to a certain extent as they do make those few phone calls. But after that it’s all up to me. After all, mom and dad won’t act for me,” she affirms.
With her first film tanking, Shazahn has become very careful and selective about the work she chooses. “I’m not going to sign anything that comes my way. I’m young and have a lot of time in hand. I am in the position to be choosy,” she adds.
Talking about choosing her projects, does she get help from her parents? “My parents only comment on my choices when I ask them to. I’ve been brought up as a fiercely independent young woman and my parents never interfere with my decisions I take. Of course, when I ask them for advice and help, they are there for me,” she says.
Life at the moment is looking up for this chirpy youngster who wishes to take Bollywood by storm. “At the moment I have a few projects in hand but I can’t talk about them. You’ll have to wait for a proper announcement. But one thing is for sure — the coming years look really busy for me,” she says before signing off.
